Extra Information on Chicago's Pedway System

Covering 40 blocks of downtown and linking stores, office buildings, even train stations, the Pedway is the city's 'secret weapon' against inclement weather! This underground tunnel system was built over a 40-year period and helps walkers traverse the city without fighting traffic...or rain and snow. But even though it's been around for decades, many savvy Chicagoans still don't know about it so, we went on a walking tour of the Pedway and stopped off at some well-known and some not so well-known destinations found along the underground pathway! For more information about the Pedway: www.cityofchicago.org. Click here for a map of the pedway!

Chicagoland Radio Information Service
For more than 20 years, this radio station has broadcast readings of periodicals to people who are blind or have other disabilities that prevent them from reading newspapers. Today, 40,000 Chicago area listeners rely on CRIS Radio to hear their news! CRIS operates 24 hours a day from their subterranean 'digs' within the Pedway system. With only 5 employees, the staff is made up largely of volunteer 'readers'.
