Extra Information on Hegeler Carus Mansion
Janet takes a two-hour drive to LaSalle, IL to visit the Hegeler Carus Mansion! Designed in 1874, this 16,000 square-foot mansion is like a huge time capsule! Original furniture and accessories abound in this home that's open for tours Wednesdays through Sundays. While much of the exterior restoration is complete, the interior remains in a largely undisturbed, albeit somewhat dilapidated, state. Although one of the original family members-who is now over 100 years old-still lives in a portion of the house, the non-profit Hegeler Carus Foundation has taken up the monumental task of restoring the mansion to its original grandeur!
