Lou Canellis got the dish on a new restaurants in the city!
Butter is a stylish West Loop restaurant that opened in mid April
in the former Green Room space. With a warm, sexy and inviting atmosphere,
the concept there is simple -- it's about appealing to women.
"It
initially all started with the movie "What Women Want." I was an
extra stand up in the movie with Mel Gibson and it really peaked
my interest," said Jason Chan, owner.
Ladies, you can certainly feel right at home at Butter -- a vanity
cabinet in the women's restroom is stocked with everything you need
to make your dining experience comfortable. There is also a luxury
eight-foot-long raw bar and the cuisine is not intimidating.
"This
is not a big portion restaurant, this is not a steak house, this
is not some of the other restaurants that are downtown that men
would like to go to. It's sexy food…seasoned, bold flavors, great
presentation, great atmosphere," said Ryan Pol, executive chef.
Don't expect a basket of bread when you're seated. The snacks you
receive before you get your meal are house-made potato chips, marinated
crackers with herbs and olive oil, and truffle popcorn with chives.
The intriguing yet approachable menu includes a modern version of
a classic tuna nicoise salad, seared Alaskan halibut served with
oxtail ravioli, and seared pork tenderloin with a crispy grazed
belly accompanied by caramelized apples. The average entrée starts
out at about $25 and they top out at $30.
"I'm
trying to be an innovator and do a lot of things that most other
restaurants are not doing, one of them being, we're the only restaurants
in the United States that gives complementary coffee to our customers,"
said Jason Chan.
Jason also bought all seven of his servers diamond engagement rings
to solidify his commitment to them.
After a terrific meal, you can go upstairs and hit the poke-a-dot
lounge for a drink or two with good friends.
