Bank Theatre |
The LaSalle Bank Theatre (formerly the Shubert) is one of Chicago's
most precious landmarks. And today, following a multi-million dollar
restoration, the grand old lady of the Loop is ready to entertain
Chicago once again! Janet Davies attended the inaugural performance... it
was a red carpet spectacular!

Doug Banks tool a look back at this theatre's past! While it may have
a new name and a new look….there's a century of history in the walls
of the LaSalle Bank Theatre! From animal and acrobatic acts in the
early 1900's…to musicals bound for Broadway, hundreds of productions
have been staged there!
Michelle Alegria talked with the design team that oversaw the renovations!
The designers restored the 100-year-old craftsmanship and ornamentation
and added modern conveniences to this theatre.
Live theater is amazing to watch! Sometimes we don't realize all the
manpower behind the scenes needed to pull off these productions. Behind
the actors onstage is a whole crew of folks taking care of things
like lighting, sound, props, scenery, & wardrobe. Lou Canellis took
us backstage to see how it is all done!
Broadway in Chicago has some spectacular shows lined up for the season!
Just finishing up is Golda's Balcony starring Emmy award winning actress,
Valerie Harper in the role of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir. This
smash hit just finished a 15-month, sold out run on Broadway! Next
up for the theater is Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me. This hilarious
musical salute pays tribute to all things…Martin Short of course!
Stomp steps off at the LaSalle Bank Theater in July. This explosive
and unique production appeals to all ages. Hopefully the sun will
come out tomorrow for Annie next fall as she comes to Chicago. Now,
new generations can sing along with little orphan Annie in this timeless
tale!
