Extra Information on Century of Progress Homes
Michelle Alegria found some relics from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair in Indiana! For more than 70 years five World's Fair homes have been battered by wind, sand and surf. But their uniqueness has weathered the elements. They were originally built for the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. At the time, they were models of modern architectural design, experimental materials, and new technologies like central air and dishwashers.

In 1935 a real estate developer named Robert Bartlett brought the homes to the dunes by barge. He hoped these high profile homes would entice buyers to his new resort community of Beverly Shores.

Today, these unique homes are owned by the national Park Service and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Century of Progress project is a partnership between the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
