Hailing a cab is no problem in the Loop -- just step to the curb and wave your arm. In the north suburbs, it's a little tougher to find a taxi -- unless of course you're a dog or cat.

With three dogs of her own, Marla Levitt knew that pets can be a bit like kids when it comes to juggling their schedules. Earlier this year, she created Pawz Pet Taxi to help other North Shore pet parents with their furry friends' trips to the vet, groomer or doggie day care.

"I get everything from what a great idea, do you have a brochure to that's so silly," said Marla Levitt, Pawz Pet Taxi Owner.

While most of Marla's calls are routine, rather than silly, she has transported a few pets that are lucky dogs.

"To the airport, I had a dog I picked up from Oklahoma City, brought to a kennel, back to the airport, he went to England so he could spend a year in Toulouse, France. I've had cats and I will take anything as long as it's caged if it's a snake, rabbit as long as it's caged and cats are caged then I'll be more than happy to take them," said Marla Levitt.

Marla takes Shadow, who lives in Skokie, to meet up with his owner, Sonia, downtown for obedience training classes.

"If you're a busy person and you can't leave work sometimes she's really good with the dogs. It's clear to me she is and she's concerned about their safety inside the taxi, so I'm happy. I'd definitely recommend it," said Sonia Ravin, Pawz Pet Taxi Client. Pawz Pet Taxi is available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. and rides must be scheduled by appointment 24 hours in advance.
