Years later, he began singing back-up for Lionel Richie, and not long after, he ventured out on a solo career of his own. In June 1987, Richard released his hit self-titled debut album. The album spawned four smash hit singles, including 'Don't Mean Nothing,' 'Should've Known Better,' 'Endless Summer Nights,' and 'Hold On To The Nights.'
