Local
Skiing
Janet Davies checks out the local skiing scene. After getting outfitted
and taking an indoor lesson on the Mogulslope Snowsports Trainer
at Snowcrest Ski and Snowboard Center, Janet goes to the Northwest
Suburbs for night skiing at Villa Olivia. This 185-foot ski hill
has one four-person chairlift and eight rope tows. Villa Olivia
is actually a country club with golf in the summer. The facility
also hosts banquets and wedding receptions, so if you ever want
to get married and then hit the slopes right away, Villa Olivia
is the place! Still within a 90-minute drive, Janet travels to southern
Wisconsin to ski at The Mountaintop at Grand Geneva. Once a Playboy
Club, this 211-foot resort now welcomes families with an extensive
ski school. The Grand Geneva Resort and Spa complex offers overnight
lodging and an indoor water park. Also in Wisconsin, Janet takes
a quick lesson at Wilmot Mountain, a 230-foot hill with eight chairlifts.
Dating back to 1938, Wilmot Mountain is one of the oldest ski areas
in the Midwest. The resort has been owned by generations of the
same family throughout its history.
