Jojo’s Closet

Doug Banks visited the colorful—and unusual—world of Jojo Baby, a truly one-of-a-kind artist. Everything about this Chicago native is, well, unique…from his three-legged dog, “Sir Left-A-Lot”, to his outrageous wardrobe which recently got him a mention in “Entertainment Weekly!” Jojo designs all of his own costumes, and it can take him anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours to get dressed up! This jack of all trades is also a popular nightclub host throughout the city, and a well-known stylist—he actually received national attention when he dyed a jaguar print on Dennis Rodman’s hair during the Chicago Bulls championship years! And, although he wears many hats, Jojo’s true passion is art, and his tunnel-like studio, “Jojo’s closet” in the Flat Iron building, is filled to the brim with the dolls he makes and figurines he’s been collecting since he was a kid. This puppeteer’s colorfully grim dolls are posable, and are made with glass eyes, porcelain, human hair, and a full chakra system. Jojo’s creations can range in price from $100 to $5,000 dollars! And did we mention-- they also have human teeth?
